GRuB Matters: stories from our community

GRuB Matters: stories from our community

Even more powerful than the numbers are some of the stories about how GRuB has impacted people. Learn from a few of the people engaged with GRuB over the past year in their videos linked below.

Community Mural: Love Notes to GRuB

Two local artists, Darishma Alphonse and Carrie Zeigler, co-designed a permanent, multicultural community mural project called Love Notes to GRuB. Beginning at GRuB's birthday celebration in July and ending just before our Harvest Soiree in September, ~250 GRuB community members and partners (near and far) helped create this collaborative mural that was installed on the sliding doors at the back of the GRuB farmhouse. The mural includes 20 native plants from the region, one for each year of GRuB’s history. The overall design reflects the colors of the rainbow and a plant's chakra system, in turn reflecting our own balancing of chakras as found in holistic health systems of India. It also symbolizes 20 years of GRuB’s deep roots in our community and our commitment to grow and evolve.

Youth Alumni Umi

Umi first came to GRuB in 2019 as part of the GroundED program and joined us again this year as GRuB's first-ever, Alumni Food Team Coordinator. During her time as Food Team Coordinator, Umi prepared snacks and meals for the GroundED crew, assembled a cookbook full of plant-based, seasonal GRuB recipes, and uncovered her love for teaching people how to cook.
