Get or Give a GRuBby Garden!

Get or Give a GRuBby Garden!

Our priority for garden building in 2020 is raising resources for those with the highest food insecurity during this time. Fifty households were selected earlier this year for our free Backyard Garden Program, and all received wooden raised beds and other gardening support this spring.

We will continue fundraising and garden building throughout 2020, so that we can gift gardens to as many people as possible! If you’d like to gift a garden to someone else, please consider joining our Lettuce Build Gardens campaign!  For every $250 raised, we will gift an additional garden.

If you are interested in getting a garden, here’s what we have to offer during the rest of 2020.  All gardeners receive a selection of seeds & seedlings, the GRuB Growing Guide, and access to workshops and the Garden Support Team (via phone or Zoom, until we resume in-person programming).

Option 1:  Receive a free container garden.   Qualifying households are eligible for one free container garden. Five-foot diameter circular containers can be placed in a driveway or yard, preferably in full sun.   Requirements include:

  • Household income of 185% or less of federal poverty level
  • Thurston County resident (or within a 1-hour drive from GRuB)
  • Permission from landowner
  • Completing an application and end-of-season evaluation

Review our free garden application materials, and follow the link to apply.  Questions?  Email: backyardgardens@goodgrub.org or call (360) 522-3476

Option 2:  Request a set of container gardeners for a community space.  Option for community-based organizations or community living environments, with prioritization for populations most impacted by COVID-19, racial violence, or food insecurity.  Please inquire with backyardgardens@goodgrub.org or call (360) 522-3476.
