Youth, Senior & Food Bank Shares

Did you know that we send produce home with our youth crew, to the Thurston County Food Bank and now in our new senior cSA program ?

We end up donating about half of our entire harvests of fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables. We need your help to accomplish this. It costs us $250 to provide food for one youth for the year. That’s $7,000 in our budget for the 28 youth we will feed in 2017.

This year, we are excited to announce our Senior CSA Share.   We are working with Senior Services of South Sound to provide seniors with low incomes fresh, local produce thus improving their health and nutritional status.

Each week, Senior CSA members will take home a bag of seasonal produce as well as a small bouquet when available. Everything in the share is sustainably grown on the GRuB Farm in West Olympia without pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. Members will also receive a weekly newsletter about what’s in the bag, recipes, and GRuB happenings. The bags are delivered Friday afternoons to the Senior Services building at 222 Columbia St NW in downtown Olympia.  Deliveries will last for 10 weeks in the summer, starting in July (date TBD, we will contact you when we have a firm date). We’re no longer accepting applications for the Senior CSA. We are still looking for folks to help sponsor these Senior CSA shares. If you’re interested in providing financial support, give us a call at 360-753-5522!

We also grow for the Thurston County Food Bank year round. The T.C. Food Bank identifies winter season fresh produce as the greatest need among its visitors. Here at GRuB, we send delicious produce there all season and then devote a portion of our fields and our greenhouse to winter production – all integrated with our GRuB School and education programs. We devote about $1,500/year from our budget to support these emergency food efforts. Would you like to help offset our costs? We’re looking for 10 Food Bank share supporters to adopt us! We also encourage you to support the Food Bank directly.

Want another way to support the T.C. Food Bank? Plant an extra row for the Food Bank! Focus on easy to prepare veggies. Winter and early spring production is especially welcome.

We’d love you to:
